Travel tote

I had a wonderful day sewing with friends yesterday.  And this morning I finished what I started... a tote from a pattern given to me by a friend.  It had some challenging moments (mostly to do with closures--buttonholes, zippers, magnetic buttons!), but was well worth doing.

Sewing machine "cozy"

My 3 or 4 year old Janome has never had a cover, just a case.  I finally got around to making one.  It was another chance to practice my free motion quilting (on the sides only--it takes so long!), but it was fun to do while watching the inauguration events.

Another mug rug

A quick project.  One more mug rug.  They are fun to make, and this gave me some more practice using glue in the binding process!

Scraps

This week I've been playing with scraps.

Joining the blog world's obsession with scrappy trip around the world, I decided to try my hand.  Here are the six blocks I have made so far.

And here is a 20" square pieced together purely with scraps.  It may make its way into a group quilt...

This is truly a case of making something out of seemingly nothing!

Mug rugs and a new tote

This week I made these mug rugs/potholders for myself and friends...

And a nice, sturdy tote for carrying books or projects around town...

Piece to Peace group--latest quilts

A group of quilt friends that I am lucky enough to quilt with each month makes quilts for charitable causes.  We recently finished a couple and had them quilted by our local longarm friend, Joe.  The red, white, and blue "twister" quilt will be presented at a ceremony at the VA hospital, and the flower  quilt in the background may go to a Habitat for Humanity family.  Then this week we had some fun making sailboats!
